Story

Supercharged Soul. These two words perfectly describe the The Blizzard of 78.  The band blew onto the scene with their first release in 2006 with “Where All Life Hangs.” Bob Gulla of The Phoenix described the album as “a dozen emotionally resonant tunes, delicately and tastefully assembled a la Coldplay or Damien Rice, with flourishes of Badfinger.” The band was awarded Album of the Year from Motif Magazine and singer Pip also won Vocalist of the Year from Motif and The Phoenix.

The bands second album, “Book of Lies” (2008), received great reviews like this one from Skyscraper Magazine, “Book of Lies makes for a rather affecting listen…the results are often jaw-dropping and goose bump inducing.” It too was nominated for Album of the Year by The Phoenix.

Nothing Or No One, the new 3 song EP from The Blizzard of 78, is the third release from this Boston rock and roll band.  The 3 new songs on the EP, recorded and produced by band members Chris Cugini and Nate Leavitt at their studio in Stoneham, MA, continue to expand on the bands take on the supercharged soul sound they love.  There’s an obvious nod to Neil Young in the second track “Corner of the Room” no doubt due to the time spent learning a set of Young’s tunes for a set at the Neil Young Cover Up they performed at last February.  Lyrically, lead singer Pip delivers a trio of stories and melodies giving the listener a glimpse into his world of alienation and raw-deal relationships.

Live, the band is well known for their emotionally driven sets. Lead singer Pip, summons the likeness of James Brown or Van Morrison. The rest of the bands impressive musicianship demands your attention with presence and chemistry not unlike The Who or The Stones. This dynamic combination has landed them opening slots for Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Guster, The Long Winters and Throwing Muses to name a few.
